Self-Sabotage by Overthinking
You are probably overthinking a lot of things when it comes to your health and nutrition.
Do you find yourself stuck in the weeds worrying about whether you should do a 14 or 16 hour fast; workout 5 or 6 days a week; serve yourself ½ cup or ¼ cup of rice with dinner? Wait. Brown rice? Or is white rice ok? (Yeah it totally is.)
The irony of this is that your overthinking is often the major reason you’re not taking some of the most basic steps that will actually guarantee your success. Simple things like including enough vegetables, ensuring enough sleep, learning how to reduce emotional overeating and leaning into hunger cues.
Many of us have spent way too much time researching the latest diet trends, reading articles, and watching so-called “nutrition experts” on social media. This overconsumption of content and information often leaves you feeling overwhelmed, more confused and paralyzed to take any sort of action.
Do we need to be worried about lectins when we aren’t even eating enough vegetables? Do we need to be worried about which BCAA to take when we aren’t even working out regularly? Do we need to worry about our macros when our diet still consists of 40% processed food items? The answer is of course: NO!
The truth is that the fundamentals of success are simple, not sexy and require a dedication to consistency. These same fundamentals can be applied (with varying degrees of context) to most stages of life.
“Researching” is not working actually doing the work. It’s actually a way to procrastinate and convince ourselves that we are working to “solve our problem” without actually doing anything.
If you find yourself in this position, it’s worthwhile getting support from someone like me. Someone who will challenge your own attempts at procrastination and your make-believe stories about why you can’t take those small, manageable steps.
